RV Destination Series Part 2: Top 5 RV Parks in the Eastern United States
The sprawling east coast of the the United States offers one of the most eclectic arrays of picturesque views, super highways and quaint byways with loads to see and do along the way. No matter where the road takes you and your RV, you are sure to find plenty of things to do and countless places to stay. Here, we offer a few suggestions of places to stay, some “on the way” to bigger destinations but also some that can be destinations themselves, off the beaten path and deep into nature.

Mount Desert Narrows in Bar Harbor, Maine fits the second category nicely. The park is situated about an hour out of Bangor in the middle of Maine’s Downeast region on Frenchman’s Bay and is part of the pristine Acadia National Park. Mt. Desert Narrows and its sister sites, Narrows Too and Patten Pond, maintain a rustic camping environment with simple yet enjoyable activities and amenities. Couple that with all the amazing outdoor activities in Acadia, including 50 miles of carriage road and endless hiking trails for all levels and abilities, and you have the makings for a perfect RV vacation.

The Narrows offers a heated outdoor pool for cooling off, group fire pits, picnic facilities, spotless bathing facilities, canoe and kayak rentals and even live entertainment during peak season. They also offer a spacious event room with a stunning sea view for larger group events.
Rocky Knob Campground in Floyd, Virginia is another site for RV enthusiasts and campers looking for a more back-to-nature experience. There are over 100 sites here suitable for both tents and RVs but all are primitive with no water or electric hookups. The camp features breathtaking mountain views and quiet, wooded sites, perfect for warm summer nights.
Four trails offer great hiking experiences for the novice hiker to the experienced trailblazer. Area naturalists offer talks and demonstrations of many of the areas flora and fauna and the adventure-seeker will love taking an excursion through Rock Castle Gorge, a natural wonder full of quartz crystal formations and, of course, its namesake: the famous Rocky Knob.
Lakewood RV Campground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina boasts an amazing family-oriented outdoor resort atmosphere brimming with fun activities for all ages. Three onsite water slides offer over 500 feet of slipping, sliding adventure. There is also a separate interactive water activity center with two slides and a soothing 700-foot lazy river ride. Boat and Kayak rentals are available and who can resist a round of Putt-Putt Golf on the meticulously manicured onsite course? There are even special programs and organized activities for children.
The park offers a variety of RV and campsites with open and shaded lake or ocean views. An onsite trading post provides all essential camp supplies and groceries along with a selection of gifts and souvenirs. Several full-service snack bars and small restaurants and cafés offer full meals, desserts and light snacks. Best of all, it’s right in Myrtle Beach so wether visitors decide to venture into town or stay onsite, there is no end of fun to be had.
Fair Harbor RV Park and Campground in Perry Georgia is the perfect central location for visitors to Macon and Atlanta and offers the necessary respite from all things urban and fast-paced. Among the many advantages of Fair Harbor is its vast selection of wide full 20/30/50 hookup pull-through sites making it an attractive destination for large rigs and especially comfortable for smaller ones.
The park is located literally minutes from well over a dozen local attractions and also offers every convenience necessary for an extended onsite stay. Among the many amenities here are cable TV with over 70 channels, free WiFi, trails for walking and biking, a stocked, license-free fishing lake, easy access to propane and 24-hour onsite laundry.
Boyd’s Key West RV Park in Key West, Florida is a veritable paradise. It is also the southernmost-situated RV park in the United States. Aside from its close proximity to all that Key West has to offer, Boyd’s offers a unique island camping experience in an environment where outdoor temperatures fluctuate by just 12 degrees all year-round.
Amenities here include numerous 30/50 amp hookup sites with electric and cable TV, dock and boat launch, heated swimming pool, and convenience store. A poolside Tiki Hut offers luscious libations and a big-screen TV and all guests enjoy free wireless Internet at their campsites. Their picnic pavilion with gas grills and dishwashing stations can accommodate large groups and who don’t want to brave the streets of Key West in an RV, will enjoy having access to the city bus line right from the park.
It is clear to see that the East Coast offers ample opportunity for some amazing RV adventures. No matter what your destination, you are sure to find many great new homes-on-the-road as you make your way there and back again.
